Project 6 - Typography Design

My Final Typeface

Experimenting with deconstructing type

Experimenting with Potato printing

For this project I went through a series of type development exercises in order to create an original typeface. Processes include the cutting away of shapes, finding type in nature, extracting from pattern systems, printing, and the deconstruction of type.
Blue Pill was my final outcome, as it is elegant and has a "sexiness" in the curves. This typeface has been refined through the simplification of curves and the minimalist quality of the letter forms. The addition of small circles creates a unique feeling about the type.

Project 5 - Editorial Design (Copy Cat)

Double Page Spread 1

Double Page Spread 2

Double Page Spread 3

For this project I was required to create a blog using a body of text approximately 4000 words. These are designs for fold out spreads in a magazine. Given the brief to design a Double page spread, I took the challenge and developed interesting layouts that fold out to form the above displays. Here i have experimented with typesetting, emphasis through enlargement, as well as the enhancement of type through imagery and a background theme.

Project 4 - Photo Farm

Final Fruit as Fine Art

Final Smoke

Final X-ray

Final Water Drop

Final Torch

Final Own Choice

Final "thirds"

Final triptych

For this assignment we were briefed to explore with the camera. I went through a series of tutorials ranging from still life and action shots, through to light and the manipulation thereof. The above photos are the best of each area. Hope you find them as beautiful as i did. Enjoy!

Project 3 - Packaging Design

For this project, I was required to design a package for an Apple product, and in this case went with the "i5"

This concept is designed around a "design emergency" where the revolutionary product must be represented by an equally groundbreaking package. The product inside is an additional hand much like "thing" from the Addams family. The i5 is packaged in a box that resembles a fist at the end of a wrist, and the graphics represent the elegance of design inspired by the apple brand.

I am proud to announce that this design package has been nominated for a Loerie Award!! Hold thumbs!! ^^

The images above are of firstly, the original box design without fold lines, so you can see the pattern in 2D.
The second image is that of an instruction board of sorts, where I explain how the i5 is used, and in what situations we should turn to its aid!

Side Project - Kusudama

This side project uses the folding techniques of origami in order to create spheres out of folded sections. Each of the 30 pieces is identical, and folded into the next in order to create the above structure. Very fun, but quite time consuming ^^

Project 2 - Branding and Corporate Identity

For this first branding project of 2011 I took on the movie "Where the Wild Things Are" and adopted the characters for my design. I redeveloped their identity and in doing so revived their personality through design.
These are the individual logos for the main characters, Alex (Max) and Pyro (Carol), as well as logos for the home in which they live (Nirvana) and the movie's title itself.

I chose to represent the personality of my characters through the beautiful texture of coffee which encapsulates the richness of this film and the depth of its message.

This is a set of business cards designed in order to relay information about the characters. I designed the cards to fold into the characters themselves so that they can create a 3D scene using the movie's card as a base structure. The information on the business cards tells use the location of the character, as well as the sound required to summon each character, inspired ofcourse by the movie.

This is an example of the construction of Pyro's busines card as a 3D model.

Front Cover

This is the cover for my first Typography Book titled, "type is alive." this project has been designed in order to establish a sensitivity to typefaces and their potential to be manipulated through processes of design.
below are the double page spreads (DPS) for my book.
